LGA Airport Pickup Guide: Where to Meet Your Ride at LaGuardia

At LaGuardia, you meet a private car at the active curb outside your terminal, but the car cannot sit there waiting for you. Your driver stays in the Cell Phone Lot until you have your bags and call. Ride-app and car-service pickups use marked spots that differ in Terminals A, B and C. This guide covers each terminal, the waiting rules, accessibility, costs that apply to taxis, and how to set up a pickup that works the first time.
TL;DR
- Private vehicles meet you at the active curb outside your terminal. They cannot wait there if you are not ready, so drivers use the free Cell Phone Lot until you call.
- Car-service and ride-app pickup is across the street in Terminal A, on Level 2 of the parking garage in Terminal B, and in the arrivals inner lane in Terminal C.
- Look for “Car Services” signs if you booked an authorized car, van or shuttle, and “Ride App Pick Up” signs if you booked through an app.
- Pickup spots can change, so the current instructions from your provider and the airport come first.
- For a pre-booked chauffeur, agree on curbside or meet-and-greet before you fly, and share your flight number.

How pickup works at LaGuardia
LaGuardia is one of the busiest airports in the country, and its roadways are built around keeping vehicles moving. The airport’s rule for private pickups is simple. Per the airport’s pick-up and drop-off page, curbside waiting is allowed only when the passenger and luggage are present. Parking is not allowed on airport roadways or terminal frontages, and unattended vehicles are towed.
That shapes everything about a smooth pickup:
- You land, deplane and collect your bags.
- You tell your driver you are ready, by call or message.
- The driver leaves the Cell Phone Lot and meets you at the right spot for your terminal.
- You load up and go, without the car idling at the curb.
The official page gives no fixed time for how long it takes to reach the pickup point. It only says passengers must be ready with all their bags, and that drivers wait in the lot until called. So the real time depends on your gate, your bags and how busy the terminal is.
Pickup locations by terminal
The airport’s ride app and car service page lays out the pattern for each terminal. Authorized car, van and shuttle services follow the same locations, but their signs read “Car Services” instead of “Ride App Pick Up.”
| Terminal | Where the pickup is | Sign to follow |
|---|---|---|
| Terminal A | Directly across the street from the terminal | “Ride App Pick Up” or “Car Services” |
| Terminal B | Level 2 of the Terminal B parking garage | “Ride App Pick Up” or “Car Services” |
| Terminal C | The arrivals inner lane | “Ride App Pick Up” or “Car Services” |
The airport also notes that the exact location can change. If your app or provider sends different directions, follow those.
Terminal A
The pickup area is across the street from the terminal, a short walk from the lobby. Collect your bags, exit, and cross to the marked area. If you travel with a stroller, a large suitcase or a family group, tell your driver where you are standing so they can pull up close.
Terminal B
Terminal B is the one that trips people up. The pickup is on Level 2 of the parking garage, and you follow the “Ride App Pick Up” signs. The garage is not at the curb outside baggage claim, so a message like “I’m outside” is not enough. Tell your driver you are on Level 2 of the garage and which door or column marker you are near.

The airport’s All Terminals Shuttle connects passengers with terminals, parking, rental cars and car pick-up areas. It is useful if you landed at one terminal but your party or your driver is set up at another.
Terminal C
In Terminal C the pickup is in the arrivals inner lane. That is the lane closest to the building, so you do not need to cross traffic. Because the inner lane is active, cars move through it quickly. Be at the door with your bags when your driver is a few minutes out.
Meeting a private car or chauffeur
A chauffeur pickup is different from a ride-app pickup in one way that matters: you set it up in advance. Before you fly, confirm these points with your provider:
- Curbside or meet and greet. Ask whether the driver meets you at the vehicle or inside the terminal. Confirming the method is the first thing to settle, since the two work differently.
- Your terminal and airline. Give the airline and flight number, not only the arrival time, so the driver knows which terminal to expect.
- A phone number that works on landing. If you are arriving from abroad, make sure you can receive a call or text, or arrange another way to connect through airport Wi-Fi.
- Number of bags and passengers. It affects vehicle choice and how long loading takes.
- Wait-time policy. Ask how long the driver will track your flight and wait after landing.
Our own service is built around the first of those details. We track your flight and our drivers contact you promptly after you land, so you are not hunting for a car in a crowded arrivals area. If you want a driver to meet you in person, our meet and greet service covers that.
The airport itself works with authorized van, shuttle and private car providers, and the van and shuttle page lets you check the approved list when booking ahead. If you arrive without a booking, it also notes an Information Center on the arrivals level where you can get help arranging a ride.
If you are picking someone up yourself
Family and friends collecting a passenger need a plan, since the roadway rules do not bend for private cars.
Use the Cell Phone Lot
The free lot is on 94th Street between 23rd Avenue and Ditmars Boulevard. According to the airport, it is open seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. ET. Park there, wait for the text that says your passenger has their bags, then drive to the terminal.
A simple routine
- Track the flight on an airline app, not only the departure board.
- Head to the lot when the plane is close to landing.
- Ask your passenger to text when they are at baggage claim, then again when they have their bags.
- Agree on the exact meeting spot, using the terminal pattern above.
- Pull up only when they are at the curb. If they are not ready, loop back or return to the lot.
If you try to stand by at the curb, the airport states that unattended vehicles will be towed. An occupied car that is not loading can also be moved along. The lot is the safe default.
Terminal B pickups by private car
For private vehicles the airport directs you to the active curb outside the passenger’s terminal. If the passenger is not ready, you go to the lot. Give your passenger the terminal name and a landmark, and have them text before they walk out.
Taxis and other ways to leave LaGuardia

If your plans change or you arrive without a ride, the airport has official taxi stands. The airport’s taxi page tells passengers to use them and not to accept rides from individuals soliciting inside the terminal. That is the most important safety point in the whole airport: only get into a vehicle you booked or one waiting at an official stand.
A few taxi costs are worth knowing, all from the same official page:
- A $2.00 PANYNJ airport access fee applies to taxi pickups.
- A $1.00 surcharge applies on weekdays from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET.
- A $0.50 surcharge applies daily from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. ET.
These are add-ons to the metered fare, so a late-evening trip costs a little more than the same trip at midday. A pre-booked chauffeur, by contrast, is arranged and confirmed before you land, which removes the stand and the line from the picture.
Accessible pickup at LaGuardia
Plan ahead if anyone in your group needs mobility help. The airport’s mobility services page says:
- Terminal B has a wheelchair assistance call button at the departures level, under the sign marked with the wheelchair logo.
- Terminal C has electric cart service on Level 3 between designated points in the 70s, 80s and 90s gate concourses, and on Level 2 between the 60s and 70s gate concourses.
For taxis, the airport says wheelchair-accessible taxis can be requested through Accessible Dispatch or through taxi apps, and that they are priced the same as regular taxis.
If you are booking a chauffeur, tell the provider about the mobility need when you reserve, not at the curb. That includes any wheelchair, walker, or help with steps, so the right vehicle and extra time are planned. Our team can note these needs on a booking made through our airport transfer service page.
Timing: how long after landing should you expect to wait?
No official number applies, and anyone who gives you a fixed one is guessing. What you can control:
- Carry-on only travelers can be ready much sooner than anyone waiting for checked bags.
- Terminal B pickups involve a walk to Level 2 of the garage, so allow for that.
- Peak hours put more cars in the lanes, so drivers need a few more minutes to reach you.
- International arrivals add immigration and customs before you ever reach baggage claim.
The practical rule: tell your driver when you have your bags, not when you land. That one message keeps the car out of the way of traffic and gets you in it faster.
A note on construction and road changes
LaGuardia has been rebuilt over the past several years, and the layout keeps changing. The Port Authority’s long-term roadway strategy, set out in its environmental assessment for the Central Terminal B redevelopment, focuses on separating arrivals and departures traffic and building consolidated garage access to improve circulation. The Terminal B garage pickup is part of that design.
The lesson for travelers: older blog posts and forum threads describing pickup spots may no longer be right. Check the airport’s pages or your provider’s instructions in the days before your flight.
Perspective: what we tell every LaGuardia client
Most pickup problems at LGA come down to one gap: the passenger and the driver are each waiting in a different place. A car cannot idle at the curb, and a traveler cannot always tell which door they are at. That is why we build a pickup around communication, not luck.
We track your flight, so a delay does not leave a driver waiting in the wrong place. Our drivers contact you promptly after you land, and they tell you where the car is and how to get there. If you prefer a face and a name, our meet and greet option puts a person in front of you.
For business travelers with a tight calendar, and for families landing with children and luggage, this is the difference between a calm arrival and twenty minutes of phone tag. It is the service we designed, and we stand behind it.

FAQ
Where do I meet my driver at LaGuardia?
The airport says private vehicles meet you at the active curb outside your terminal, while authorized car services and ride apps use marked pickup areas. In Terminal A that is across the street, in Terminal B it is Level 2 of the parking garage, and in Terminal C it is the arrivals inner lane. Confirm the exact point with your driver, since locations can change.
Can my driver wait at the curb for me?
Only when you and your luggage are there. Per the airport, parking on airport roadways and terminal frontages is not allowed, and unattended vehicles are towed. Drivers wait in the free Cell Phone Lot until you call.
Where is the LaGuardia Cell Phone Lot, and when is it open?
It is on 94th Street between 23rd Avenue and Ditmars Boulevard. The airport lists it as free and open seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. ET. Check the airport page before you go, in case hours have changed.
Is it safe to take a ride offered inside the terminal?
No. The airport tells passengers to use official taxi stands and not to accept rides from individuals who solicit inside the terminal. Book ahead with an authorized provider, or use the stands and the Information Center on the arrivals level.
How do I arrange a wheelchair-accessible pickup?
Tell your provider when you book, so they plan the right vehicle and time. In the terminal, Terminal B has a wheelchair assistance call button on the departures level. Accessible taxis can be requested through Accessible Dispatch or taxi apps, and they cost the same as regular taxis.
